Is a Lesbian-Only golf tournament a good or bad thing for women's golf?

Okay, let me start this off by saying that I am NOT AGAINST SAME-SEX MARRIAGES, NOT AGAINST THE RIGHT TO SEXUAL PREFERENCE, AND NOT HOMOPHOBIC IN THE LEAST.

The question really is, isn't this just enough already?? It's GOLF! Women's Golf!! We already have the challenge of getting respect in the game as a whole, and now we are already breaking ourselves up? I just feel that it's enough already.

In the original statement in December of '06, the Press Release for the ForeUs Lesbian Golf tournament states:

'"The goal of foreUS is simple: to provide a unique experience for the lesbian golfer by providing them a competitive and safe environment in which to play golf,'' said foreUS CEO & Executive Director Pam Dunnam.'

Are lesbian golfers unsafe in normal tournaments? The abundance of lesbians in golf is no secret, and I have yet to run into anyone that cared about anyone's sexual orientation. It's GOLF! A game of golf between mature, intelligent women.

Or is it for the best? Does it just provide the increased exposure and awareness of Women's Golf, and women's sports in general, that is undoubtedly needed? Could it be the empowerment that women are seeking? Is it that it's a seperation only to provide more unity, or is it simply a seperation and weakening of the women's golf community as a whole?

It is understandable for a person who is different to want to join a tournament where they could be accepted as well as challenged, but we are women. We are supposed to be the understanding and accepting ones, and it just seems like having an all Lesbian Golf Tournament is just taking attention away from larger issues of inequality between men's and women's sports.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE voice your opinons. I am interested to see how others feel about this.
